Eugenio is a quiet, affable, middle-aged man. He lives alone in a great big house in the country. He works as a gardener and, in his free time, he works as a volunteer in a hospital. One characteristic, however, distinguishes him from others. He has Down’s syndrome. This, however, is no obstacle to his living an independent life, helping some of the patients in the hospital, such as Laura, who had just been in an automobile accident. Laura is the daughter of Elena, the woman Eugenio loved and who had to leave town to marry the man she was expecting a child from. Elena comes back, but does not tell Eugenio the reason for her return. This secret, however, is no hindrance to their excellent relationship. Eugenio loves her in secret and waits. He waits until the day Elena finally returns to him and asks forgiveness. As from then, new horizons are open to both.
