Raimundo Nonato is one of the many immigrants escaping from “sertão”, in northeast Brazil, to reach a better life in a southern big city. Hired as a cleaner man in a bar, Raimundo hypes the place when he discovers his talent for cooking, specially creating a very successful “coxinha”, a chicken-based snack. Giovanni, owner of a famous Italian restaurant nearby, decides to hire him as a sous-chef and by doing so changes Raimundo’s life. Now he has a nice place to live, fine clothes, good social relationships and, above all, the love of a woman. With the always hungry prostitute Iria, he develops a funny relationship based in sex in change of food. But his naïve love is not corresponded and the situation comes to a tragedy. His cooking gift, afterwards, will be approved by colleagues in prison and will be the way to his ascension to power. How and why Nonato went to prison is not clear. The situation will be solved just at the end of the story.
