This is the sad story of hairdresser Elisa whose dream it is to open a beauty parlor in an exclusive suburb of Montevideo. After a considerable upheaval with her neurotic mother, Elisa leaves home taking her two children with her. Under the influence of her best friend Lulu, she takes to prostitution. In love with a heavy-handed pimp, Placido, “El Cara”, her idea is to move to Spain, work on the streets of Barcelona to one day return home and care for her children. This is a dream that is close to a nightmare. Elisa is unduly exploited by her giggolo-lover and arouses the ire of Brazilian transvestites who have taken over the Barcelona sidewalks. “El Cara” is involved in the murder of one of these and is arrested. Elisa is always in search of true love and allows herself to be seduced by a young policeman, Marcelo. Now in love, they move to Montevideo. Unabated by the vicissitudes of life, Elisa is again to insist on her dream.
