Spring, 1945. The Americans are marching through Europe. A group of prisoners is lined up. At the last minute, superintendent Kuetter attempts to give the order for execution, but all of the telephone lines are inoperative. And so, the prisoners survive. One of them is Karl, a boy of 17. One year and a half before, his life was as normal as might be the life of a boy in a country at war. His mother is dead, his father is at the front, and he lives with his brother, Peter, who is part of the Hitler Youth. Karl, however, is a member of the Edelweiss Pirates, an anti-Nazi group, and the deadly enemy of his brother?s gang. Things take a turn when Karl and his friends meet a fugitive named Hans, an expert bomber who convinces the boys to help him on a risky attempt against the Gestapo headquarters-general.
