A new approach to the Down syndrome that, in Brazil, affects as many as 8 thousand babies a year. Several of the parents of children and youngsters afflicted by the syndrome, are interviewed. They almost always tell of initial trauma, progressing later to a positive attitude in frankly and openly facing up to a handicap. The film follows along with several of the characters, in a normal day?s routine, with study, work, leisure, and dreams. As in the case of the boy who would like to surf; a young couple preparing for marriage and

trying to venture into film making; a librarian passionately fond of books and reading; a statement by one of the mothers about the happy, productive life of one son who died at the age of fifty. The film shows a new attitude to the problem that, up to a few years ago, meant virtual isolation not only for those thus afflicted, but also, for their parents.
