Personal records of day-to-day life for film maker Glauber Rocha in the Portuguese city of Sintra, close to Lisbon. He lived there with his wife Paula Gaitán and their two children, Eryk Aruac and Ava Patrya Yndia Yracema in 1981, for some time before he died. These are the last, as yet unpublished images by Glauber Rocha in his lifetime. With letters, objects, photographs, images in Super-8 and statements such as that of Argentine Fernando Birri film maker, this production shows Glauber’s final acts. He retraces paths, re-invents ways, meets up again with friends and characters from the town, as for instance Dom José, the Hotel Central waiter, and Carmen, the maid. This is not a historical document revolving around a mythical character. The film goes beyond a personal journey to reflect on an end to Glauber’s life, voluntary exile, family life and the relationship with The Age of the Earth (1980), his last film, a special exhibit in a restored version at the 31st Mostra.
