In New York, Les is a celebrity photographer in search of the photograph that will make him famous. While he takes pictures of Goldie Hawn having lunch or the musician Elvis Costello without his unfailing hat, he meets Toby, a young street dweller without perspectives, except for a vague desire to become an actor. Les initially rejects his new friend, but ends up taking him into his apartment, where his guest sleeps in the closet. Les does this for a reason: he sees the boy as his chance to meet K’Harma Leeds, the hottest star of the moment. The plan works at first, when Toby is invited by the star to a party, but problems soon arise. The film brought Tom DiCillo the Concha de Prata Award for Best Director, in addition to the award for Best Screenplay, and the Signis Award for originality at the San Sebastián Film Festival, in Spain, in 2006.

TOM DI CILLO

He was born in 1954, in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended the New York University of Cinema, and later worked as an actor and photography director before making his own movies. He did the photography for two Jim Jarmusch movies, Stranger than Paradise, chosen for the 8th Mostra, and the short film Coffee and Cigarettes, a participant at the 11th Mostra, which later became a feature-length movie. His first film, Johnny Suede (1991), had the then unknown Brad Pitt and Catherine Keener in its cast. In 1995, he made Living in Oblivion, followed by Box of Moonlight (1996), The Real Blonde (1997) and Double Whammy (2001).
