"After spending thirteen and a half years in prison for kidnapping and murdering a boy named Park Won-mo, Geum-ja Lee is released and tries to fix her life. She finds a job in a bakery, orders the manufacturing of a special weapon, reunites with her daughter, who was adopted by an Australian family; and plans her revenge against the real killer, the English teacher Mr. Baek. With the support of former inmates from prison, Geum-ja seeks an unattained redemption with her vengeance."

Born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1963. Graduated in philosophy from Sogang University, where he began a film club and wrote reviews on contemporary filmmaking. Directed several feature films such the Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2001), Oldboy (2003), winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005), all exhibited at the 37th Mostra, and Thirst (2009, 33rd Mostra), winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
