After she receives a message from her sister, to the effect that her father is very ill, Arcangel decides to travel to her home town to find him. When she arrives at her old house, that today seems abandoned, she discovers that a mysterious old woman is living there, a native of the village whose father and brother both died many years previously. Her journey becomes a voyage in search of the memory of her family, obliged to flee a curse from the origins of the Mexican people. The film is a combination of fragments of life from Arcangel?s forebears and scenes of important historical events in the country, as, for instance, the Mexican Revolution.

Born in Mexico, in 1957, he was first a film actor, in the film Benjamin’s Woman (1991), by Carlos Carrera. As from then, he also worked as a script writer. In 1993, he directed a short film A Man Who Won`t Listen to Boleros (1993). The next year he directed his first feature, La Orilla de la Tierra that, like this Bedtime Fairy Tales for Crocodiles, was filmed in the village where he was born.
