Genoa, July 20, 2001. The leaders of the eight most “developed” countries in the world are at a meeting behind closed doors to discuss world globalization. On the outside, 150 thousand demonstrators are protesting against the meeting. The police intervene. The result is tragic: 560 people are wounded, 220 are arrested, and Carlo Giulani, age 23, is killed with a shot in the head. The crime shocked the world. Jacques Chirac, French president, stated that the leaders were “traumatized”. The process of globalization now has a martyr and the world lost a precious life and will never again be the same. The process of globalization is smeared with bloodshed.
