A poet and singer, Baal is invited by a financier to have his work launched internationally. The artist, however, refuses the invitation to ascend socially with sarcasm and good humor. Instead he chooses to live as an outsider, an anarchic performer, a loafer who would rather indulge in freedom and make fun of the commitments of a social life he does not believe in.

HELENA IGNEZ

Born in Salvador, Brazil, in 1939. As an actress, she worked with important Brazilian filmmakers such as Glauber Rocha, Rogério Sganzerla, Joaquim Pedro de Andrade and Júlio Bressane. She started her career behind the camera in the 2000’s, with the shorts Reinvenção da Rua (2003) and A Miss e o Dinossauro - Bastidores da Belair (2005). Also directed the medium-length film Power of Affections (2013, 37th Mostra) and the features Baal’s Song (2008, 32nd Mostra), Light in Darkness (2010, 34th Mostra), Ugly, Me? (2013, 37th Mostra) and Ralé - The Lower Depths (2015, 39th Mostra).
