In 1970, the production company Belair Films, belonging to Brazilian filmmakers Julio Bressane and Rogério Sganzerla, produced seven films in only five months. Censured by the military dictatorship, the two filmmakers left the country, and the films have remained relatively unknown until today.

NOA BRESSANE

Noa Bressane – She was born in Rio de Janeiro and has worked on projects in film and television. She began her career doing theatrical research at the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts, where she made the short film O Beijo no Asfalto, based on a play by Nelson Rodrigues. She produced Days of Nietzsche in Turin (2001, 25th Mostra) and worked as an assistant director on São Jerônimo (1999) and The Herb of the Rat (2008, 32nd Mostra), all directed by her father, Julio Bressane. She’s also made TV soaps, series, concerts and special programs for TV Globo, where she’s worked in the television drama department since 1999. Belair is her first feature-length film. Bruno Safadi – He was born in 1980, in Rio de Janeiro. He has already directed short-films, music videos, theatre plays and music concerts. He is the head manager at the production company TB Produções. He has worked as an assistant director with filmmakers Julio Bressane (A Love Movie, 2003, and Cleopatra, 2007), Nelson Pereira do Santos and Ivan Cardoso. He directed the shorts When I Love I Melt (2001), In the Age of the Image or Projection in the Caves (2002), A Star for Ioiô (2003), and Tabu Totem (2005). My Name Is Dindi (2007), his first feature, took part in the 31st Mostra. Belair is his second feature film.
BRUNO SAFADI
BRUNO SAFADI

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1980, he worked as an assistant director on Júlio Bressane’s A Love Movie (2003) and Cleopatra (2007). He directed the shorts When I Love I Melt (2001), In the Age of the Image or Projection in the Caves (2002), A Star for Ioiô (2003) and Tabu Totem (2005). Safadi directed the features My Name Is Dindi (2007, 31st Mostra), Harmonica’s Howl (2013, 37th Mostra) and The End of an Age (2014, 38th Mostra), this one co-directed by Ricardo Pretti. He also directed the documentary Belair (2009, 3rd Mostra), co-directed by Noa Bressane.
