Maire Linnanmaa is 51 and bored: she spends her solitary days drinking and collecting news items from newspapers and profiles of persons that suffered great tragedies in life. She is involved to such an extent in the most terrible stories that she eventually appropriates the catastrophes. Maire is especially upset by the story of Kirsi-Mari Aarniala, age 27, whose policeman husband was killed by Raimo Gustavsson, age 44. Two years following the tragedy, the murderer is leading a new life in the country. Both Kirsi-Mari and Raimo now want to forget the past. However, Maire believes that the widow and her little daughter of five were not sufficiently indemnified for the terrible loss. Nobody has asked her to do anything, yet in the name of justice that she believes was not done, she decides to set to in aid of mother and daughter.

Nasceu em 1955. Estudou Cinema em Helsinki. Trabalhou como montador e assistente de direção para vários diretores finlandenses. Dirigiu "The Final Arrangement"(87) e os telefilmes "August `43"(89), "95 Octanes"(90) e "Two Old Thieves"(92).
