The story of Banda de Ipanema - 36 years in all - is told during the course of a parade. This is a tribute to Albino Pinheiro, leader of the band. The life and devotion of Albino are there - the Pasquim group, bossa nova, new cinema, Opinião theater, Leila Diniz, Tom Jobim, Pixinguinha, and the key figures in the band with several famous patrons who went on parade with the band. Also included are the advent of the “esquerda festiva” leftist movement, and the fundamental participation of Albino in the festivities in Rio de Janeiro, in events such as the Seis e Meia music project.

PAULO CÉSAR SARACENI

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1933, he studied at the Centro Experimental de Cinema in Rome. A film critic and assistant director for theater in the fifties, he began to direct short films in 1957. One of the forerunners of the new cinema, he directed features including Porto das Caixas (1964), The Dare (1965), Capitu (1968), The Murdered House (1971), Love, Carnival and Dream (1972), Ao Sul do meu Corpo (1982), Natal da Portela (1988), Bahia de Todos os Sambas (1996), and O Viajante (1998, 22nd Mostra). In 2001, Saraceni made three documentaries for the RAI, Italian TV: Fórum Mundial de Porto Alegre, Movimento dos Sem-Terra, and Garrincha: O Pássaro de Deus.
