A priest, a transvestite, a taxi driver, a blind woman, a dance maestro, a street cleaner, musicians, a couple of dance twosomes, ranging in age from 18 to 85, all have something in common: dancing and music are the center of their lives. Although many of the characters exist under extenuating economic circumstances, dance imbues them with dignity. The story is told by a shoemaker and the documentary focuses on the importance of dance in Mexico City. One detail in particular: the dancers may not have enough to eat, but they always manage to save enough to invest in impeccable dancing shoes.

CORDELIA DVORÁK

She studied theater, languages, and history of art in Paris and Munich. She was assistant director for theater in Paris and Milan. Playwright, director, and art and costume designer. In 1995, she began her career as film director with Ein Tag im Leben des Peter Jonas and Peter Greenaway: Rosa - a horse drama. Bailar para Vivir! was awarded the prize for best documentary at the Bogocine Festival in Bogotá.
