The Island of Chios, 1960. Sudden death of the rural guard prompts the local council at Tholopotami to pressure the district agronomist into appointing a new name for the post. Rural guards available refuse to move to Tholopotami owing to the bad reputation of the place and to the fact that their fellow guard died at his post. When the municipality reiterates the request and offers financial incentive, four volunteers are ready for the position. The agronomist appoints and then dismisses one after the other, for all fail at their mission.

Dimos Avdeliodis was born on the Island of Chios in 1952. He studied at the School of Philosophy in the University of Athens and at the Giorgos Theodossiadis School of Drama. In addition to films, he directs theater plays. He was awarded the prize for Best Director at the Festival of Thessalonica.
