Four dark young women from Brasilândia, on the outskirts of São Paulo, battle for a dream: to live exclusively from their music. Preta, Barbarah, Mayah, and Lena, childhood friends, are no longer backing vocals for a rap group consisting of men, and start their own group, Antônia. Discovered by artistic manager Marcelo Diamante, they start to sing rap, MPB, pop, and soul in bars and at parties for the middle class. But no sooner does the dream of a better life begin to take shape than the hazards of day-to-day life marked by poverty, by violence and by male chauvinism threaten the group. Separated by bitter fate, the foursome will have to fight to bring together what is left of the group and regain the joy of singing together. The soundtrack is by Beto Villares who composed the music for O Ano em que Meus Pais Saíram de Férias (also selected for the 30th Mostra), in partnership with Parteum, a hip-hop experimental and progressive artist.
