Wandering With the Moon

Born in 1915 in Stockholm, Sweden, and died in 2004, in Spain. The son of Gösta Ekman, one of Sweden`s most celebrated theater and film actors. He studied film-making in America and, in 1938, wrote his first script for the movie Summer Lightning, by Anders Henrikson, based on a story by British writer P.G. Wodehouse. Two years later, he wrote and directed With You in My Arms, his first feature, also with an echo of Wodehouse. Among his movies are Changing of Trains (1943), Wandering with the Moon (1945), Royal Riff-Raff (1945) and The Girl from the Third Row (1949), all films set in the theatre world. In many of these films, the leading lady was Eva Henning, who was also Ekman`s wife at the time. She also stars in The Girl with Hyacinths (1950), usually considered Ekman`s masterpiece. As an actor, he participated in several movies, including Prison (1949) and Three Strange Loves/Thirst (1949), by Ingmar Bergman, both shown at 32nd Mostra, as part of the director’s retrospective.
