The wanderings of a 16-year-old European emigrant named Karl Rossmann in the USA. He was forced to go to New York to escape the scandal of his seduction by a housemaid. As the ship arrives in America, he becomes friends with a stoker who is about to be dismissed from his job. Based on an unfinished novel of Franz Kafka.

VLADIMIR MICHALEK

After graduating from FAMU (Czech Film and TV Academy), he started shooting documentaries and worked as an assistant director to primarily foreign directors. He has worked with 26 directors, including: Margarethe von Trotta (Rosa Luxembourg, 1985), Bernhard Wicky (The Spider´s Web, 1986), R. Hauff (The Blue Eye, 1989), A. Klagen (The Bertinis, 1987), P. Weigel (Romeo and Juliet in the Village, 1989), Adrew Birkin (The Burning Secret, 1987) and Ted Kotcheff (The Shooter, 1995). His other films includes Amerika (1994, special presentation in 33rd Mostra), Forgotten Light (1996), Sekal Has to Die (1998), Angel Exit (2000), Autumn Spring (2001). He also participates in 33rd Mostra with Of Parents and Children (2008).
