The 2014 World Cup passed through Brazil raising dust like a ball in an abandoned field, bringing and taking away dreams, illusions, and also sadness. This documentary portrays this period with the perspective that only the passage of time can give us, and it does so from the stories of four people from different parts of the country. The hosts that title the film are the Brazilian people who experienced the best and worst of an event they welcomed with open arms. The film also raises important questions about the impact of mega-events on host countries.

Carla Dauden

Brazilian director and producer trained in California, USA. She directed several advertising pieces and the short films The Wash (2012), Mr. Polman Wants to Fit In (2013), Descartados (2016) and The Jump (2018). Carla participated in the Disney/ABC Family emerging directors program. The Hosts is her first feature film.
